Office of the Associate Provost for International Affairs and Operations (APIAO)

Provides support to internationalization efforts across campus with specific emphasis on:

  • Collaborations with scholars and universities around the world
  • Research opportunities abroad and the creation of global scholarly networks for faculty members and graduate students
  • Establishment of international programming for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Initiatives that give heightened emphasis to international and comparative perspectives in the curriculum

The APIAO office's Global Safety and Security unit works closely with various offices and centers on campus, including those linked below, as well as other administrative offices, to address policies and practices related to internationalization that ensure health and safety, compliance, and quality of experience.  As a delegate of the provost, the associate provost also facilitates campus visits of international guests, dignitaries, and public figures.

The associate provost provides direct oversight of the Davis International Center, administrative oversight of the Mpala Research Center and the Princeton China Center, and serves on the board of the Princeton University Athens Center for Research and Hellenic Studies.  

Council for International Teaching and Research (CITR) 

Faculty body that reports to the Provost and advises the University's senior administration on matters relating to internationalization:  
  • Strategic planning and advocacy for internationalization
  • Liaison between the overall faculty and the various campus units engaged in international activities
  • Assists senior University leadership in assessment and management of international initiatives and programs

Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS)

  • Oversees regional studies programs, certificate programs, and translation studies
  • Organizes and sponsors PIIRS Global Seminars
  • Supports research communities and other research initiatives
  • Manages the Fung Global Fellows and other visiting fellows programs
  • Sponsors the PIIRS Undergraduate Fellows Program and Graduate Fellows Program
  • Organizes and sponsors conferences and events on campus
  • Publishes World Politics journal
  • Participates in regional hiring initiatives

Office of International Programs (OIP)

  • Oversees undergraduate international programs, including Semester and Summer Study Abroad Programs, International Internship Program, the Novogratz Bridge Year Program, Fellowship Advising
  • Manages undergraduate exchanges during the academic year
  • Works with partners on study-abroad program development
  • Provides workshops and support for faculty leading programs abroad
  • Provides pre-departure orientation  for  undergraduates on international programs
  • Manages SAFE and GPS systems and supports Concur
  • Provides funding for summer international activities for undergraduates
