Two good Roma friends, the title hero Edi and his friend Jureczek, manage to get by as scrap pickers. One day, Edi meets with two people who offer him a position as private teacher of their sister, 'the Princess.' Edi, who has always loved books, takes the offer. The 'Princess' is kept by her brothers in the house, in order to avoid her any contact with men. Feeling sympathy for the girl, Edi eventually helps her to go out for one day. When the 'Princess' turns out to be pregnant, Edi is wrongly accused of having raped the girl. Unable to defend himself of the accusations, Edi is severely punished, but he accepts his fate and takes care of the girl's child.. . . . A graduate of the National Film School in Łódź, Piotr Trzaskalski made a name for himself with Edi, for which he won several awards at the Berlin International Film Festival (2003) in Berlin, and also won the special Audience Award at the 2003 Polish Film Awards from the Polish Academy.
