Based on a children's book written by Živko Čingo in the 1970s, the movie is about the difficult transition in Macedonia after World War II. On his deathbed, Lem (Meto Jovanovski) thinks back to his childhood in a post-World War II Stalinist reeducation camp, where the children of parents unwilling to embrace the new realities of Yugoslavia are taught the ways of the communist future. The young Lem befriends a boy named Isak, and they survive under the stern but compassionate tutelage of headmaster Ariton and the more brutal ways of his assistant, Olivera.. . . . Written and directed by Ivo Trajkov, the film won the Grand Prize at Valencia Film Festival. It was also Macedonia's submission to the 77th Academy Awards for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Born in 1965 in Skopje, Trajkov graduated in the Faculty of Film and Television of the Academy of Scenic Arts, in Prague, where he now is the director of postproduction. He has written and produced numerous films of different genres, such as comedy, docudrama, as well as historic and experimental cinema.. . . . (Film running time: 1h 33min). .
