Mpala Research Centre is one of the world’s premier field-based research centers located on 48,000-acres in Laikipia County, Kenya. As a Kenyan-U.S. collaboration, with backing from several prestigious research organizations, Mpala is distinctively situated to lead research initiatives on pressing topics including conservation, climate change, biodiversity, genomics, ecology, agriculture, human-wildlife interactions and public health. Mpala hosts scholars from more than 50 global institutions and has substantial scientific infrastructure, including one of the few field-based genomics laboratories in sub-Saharan Africa. The Mpala Research Centre is situated on a vast plot of wilderness in Laikipia County, in Northern Kenya.
Mpala's many partners include Kenya Wildlife Service, National Museums of Kenya, Wildlife Research and Training Institute of Kenya and the Smithsonian Institution.
At Mpala, scholars will find a vibrant community of researchers from across the globe. Students from various institutions come to Mpala to learn, research and undertake fieldwork.
